The Journal News Reports on Racist Pelham Manor Emails

As reported in the February 10, 2015 Journal News, "Racist emails from Pelham Manor police chief revealed" by Jonathan Bandler, Pelham Manor Police Chief Alfred Mosiello passed along "racist emails stereotyping African Americans and illegal immigrants."  .... MORE....
The Journal News article goes on to say, "Damon Jones, a county correction officer who is president of Blacks in Law Enforcement of America in Westchester, Rockland and Putnam, called the punishment a slap on the wrist and said an apology was meaningless," adding, "These police departments are basically run by people who have biased views of African Americans and people of color,"

Deputy Mayor Neil Schwarzfeld, accordingly to the according to the article, doesn't believe he should "speculate" about any "supposed facts." Mayor Sellier apparently forgot to tell his deputy mayor Schwarzfeld that the racist emails were real, not "supposed."

As explained in the article, and as seen below, "The racist emails that landed Pelham Manor police Chief Alfred Mosiello in trouble included crude jokes stereotyping African Americans as frequently incarcerated and uninterested in working."

  1. Pretty pathetic when a police officer reports corruption to mayor sellier, seller then covers up mosiello's crimes, and causing this officer to attempt suicide by cop. seller needs to resign, needs to be disbarred as a lawyer, needs to be arrested, blood on seller's slimy hands.

  2. I get that this isn't even the point but the numbers in the E-mail don't even add up and almost every one of the claims is patently untrue or exceedingly misleading. The fact that the chief of police can't suss out such obvious lies (or is just interested in promoting unadulterated bigotry) should probably generate some serious skepticism about the qualifications of a man whose job exists solely to promote a state of justice and truth.

The E-mail claims Joe is paying 30% in taxes but $31,231 out of $52,000 is just about 60% implying a 40% tax rate; not to mention the over-all, no deduction, federal rate on $52,000 would be somewhere around 17%.

    Jose cannot qualify for welfare.

Jose cannot qualify for food stamps.

The fact that Joe pays for health insurance is a choice with a cost and that choice and cost conveys benefits on him that Jose would not enjoy (for free, all that Jose can get is really terrible health care and emergency care). Any clinics available to Jose are almost assuredly available to Joe at no cost (the service/quality likely being horrendous).

Jose would not qualify for a rent subsidy (or he'd be living with a legal resident who did - Joe could theoretically do the same...but again, the quality of life would be pretty terrible)

Jose's lack of ill-defined "insurance" comes at a cost. Joe receives a benefit from having insurance - if he didn't he wouldn't buy it.

So, tallying it up, essentially every claim in the E-mail is wrong. The fact that the police chief (i) believes everything he reads in chain e-mails (ii) can't do simple arithmetic and (iii) can't google "do illegal immigrants qualify for welfare" should be cause enough for concern.
